SONG OF SOLOMON (9.5)

Song of Solomon

Just with the first sight, I knew this book was going to be amazing and in fact, it was! Before I begin with my comment, I want to introduce you to the beautiful woman who wrote this amazing masterpiece.
Her name is Chole Anthony Wofford, she is an Afro-American writer, novelist, essayist, editor, teacher, and professor born in 1931 in Lorain, Ohio. She uses Toni Morrison as a nickname in honor of her husband Harold Morrison, she studied at Howard University and got a master degree at Cornell. Toni published her first book at the age of 40 called "Blue eyes" but this one did not catch the public eye. Seven years later, in 1977 "Song of Solomon" was created and published, giving Toni the National Books Critic Award and a title as one of the most important contemporary authors of the United States. This book is the beginning of a successful career as a writer, and finally, in 1993 all her effort is returned as a Nobel price in Literature.
Toni Morrison founded a society called "The Tony Morrison Society" its mission is to support critical dialogue. And if you are more interested in her life and her view you can read a very nice article about her in here.
Now with the book, well Song of Solomon tell us the story of an Afro-American man called Macon Dead son a.k.a. Milkman who tries to live in the racist America era, a post-war era. Milkman is the son of Macon Dead father, a very wealthy black man and during all the book Milkman tries to find his place in this world because he doesn´t belong with the wealth of his father and neither does he belong with the wildness of his friend Guitar.
A curious thing is that the title of the book is completely related to what you´re gonna find inside it, so prepare yourself.
Usually, when I read a book  I don't have favorite characters but in this one was definitely a woman called Pilate (in honor of Poncio Pilate from the bible) she is the sister of Macon Dead father, her personality is awesome! she has such a confidence in herself, I love that! There is a particular thing about this character, Pilate does not have a belly button so that´s why everybody started thinking that she was the devil or not human.

To conclude this amazing experience, I just have to say you need to read this book. Toni´s way of writing is phenomenal, I liked how she merged two types of writings in one story!  It makes you think about your place in life and how everybody has one even if you think you don´t, you just need to go out ask questions and found it. Careful, this is not an easy task, but it's going to be worth it. So shake it up and go read this amazing book...

  1. The abstract of the book explained talks about a racist North America after WW I with a wealthy afro-american person, that doesn't seems to find himself neither in the wealth or the conpany of his friend who is named Guitar, and also brings up the caracter of Pilate who is his Aunt and its a remarkable character that is always unafarid of asking and doing things, this character It's so honest and unpredictible that people thinks she is not human due that she has no belly button or navel. A special mebtion to the author who publesh her first book at the age of 40 and seven years later started to get people's attention an excellent example of persistance
